Kd1 Bg4+ {At this point, according the St. Louis club's press release, Yoo "crumpled his scoresheet, stormed out of the tournament hall, and struck a videographer from behind". I hope that there's some misunderstanding and it was that he was in such a rush to leave he accidentally bumped the videographer from carelessness, maybe turning a corner, rather than intentionally trying to harm the poor woman. The press release continues: "The Saint Louis Chess Club immediately provided assistance to the videographer and called the police who responded." Moreover, "Chief Arbiter Chris Bird expelled Yoo from the tournament due to gross violations of our code of conduct and the US Chess Safe Play policy. The Saint Louis Chess Club fully supports this decision, and has banned Yoo from the club." So, what does it mean that the game never happened? Of course it did, literally, but because Yoo was thrown out of the tournament just before its halfway point, all his results were annulled (though the games will still be rated) and rounds where people did or were going to play him count as byes. This is obviously terrible for Caruana and So, who both defeated him, but that has been the FIDE rule since before I was a kid, and possibly from when my parents were kids. There's no justification for what Yoo did, if what he did was intentional, and there's not much of an excuse, either. Sure, he was winning or nearly winning, from a computer perspective, at least for a little while after Caruana made the wrong capture on e5. But then he was outplayed by the better player, which is the sort of thing that happens all the time in games between players with a significant rating gap. I can understand why Yoo would be irritated and annoyed - with himself. But how is that the fault of the woman with a camera?} 0-1
