Naturally in today's theory many variations have been analysed all the way to a draw, so that one feels the desire to deviate at some point and simply "play chess", but in concrete terms here White has, in my opinion, absolutely no preconditions for even a minimal advantage and with my classical chess education I cannot take this variation seriously. For that reason, moreover, I have also lost some games in this line; on the other hand, not a few of them ended in a win for me. Solche Eröffnungsbehandlung schien mir immer fraglich zu sein. Natürlich sind in der heutigen Theorie viele Varianten bis zum Remis ausanalysiert, so dass man den Wunsch verspürt, irgendwo abzuweichen und nur "Schach zu spielen", aber konkret hat Weiß hier m.E. gar keine Voraussetzungen für nur einen minimalen Vorteil und ich mit meiner klassischen Schachausbildung kann diese Variante nicht ernstnehmen. Deswegen habe ich übrigens in diesem Abspiel auch einige Partien verloren, andererseits endeten nicht wenige mit meinem Gewinn.} Qe7 {There are various possibilities for Black here, but I have often played and analysed such positions and come to the conclusion that this queen move is very interesting. I did not go through the relevant variations in my preparation for the game against Aronian (as I said, I certainly wasn't expecting him to play 1.e4) and had almost nothing ready after 7...?g8. Aber auch wenn Weiß den gegnerischen g-Bauern am Leben lässt, kommt Schwarz mit seinen Drohungen dem Anziehenden zuvor – das weiße Spiel in der Mitte geschieht zu spät. Ich kann nicht sagen, dass ich mich zu jener Zeit in diese Stellung sehr vertiefte: überall stand Schwarz so gut, dass ich nicht glauben konnte, diesem Abspiel in der Praxis irgendwann zu begegnen, wenn aber doch – dann ist es in jedem Fall wunderbar, so eine Stellung zu bekommen. Die entsprechenden Varianten wiederholte ich bei meiner Vorbereitung zur Partie gegen Aronian nicht (wie gesagt, ich erwartete von ihm überhaupt kein 1.e4) und hatte nach 7...?g8 fast nichts parat. Übrigens, als ich nach der Partie meine früheren Notizen wieder öffnete, habe ich festgestellt, dass ich dazu gar nicht viel aufschrieb.} 8.
