1.e4c62.Nf3d53.Nc3dxe44.Nxe4Bf55.Ng3Bg66.Nh4?The loss of time involved in gaining this bishop for the Knight is a bad
trade off for White, much better would be to continue developing and get
castled more quickly.e67.Nxg6hxg68.Bc4Nf69.d3Bd610.Bg5Bxg3?!
In the same vein as my opinion of White's earlier Nh4 I would much rather
Black continued developing with something like Nb-d7. But Phil is tempted by
the prospect of forcing fxg3.11.fxg3Qd4Unfortunately for White he misses
the threat posed by this last move12.h3??Qe5+Winning a piece! Loose
pieces drop off which is the case for the Bishop on g5. Perhaps if White
hadn't wasted time earlier in the opening the King would not have been caught
in the middle like this.13.Qe2Qxg3+!Phil spots that instead of
capturing the Bishop straight away he can bag an extra pawn first!14.Kd1Qxg515.Bxe6White makes a desperate attempt to open up Black's Kingfxe616.Qxe6+Kd817.Qf7Qxg2?From a practical point of view why take this
pawn? Already 2 pieces up the only way Black doesn't win this game now is for
the King to get caught, therefore perhaps a more seasoned played would prefer
a plan of Nb-d7 and Kc7 to get all the pieces developed and get the King to
safety. We are so far ahead in material as things stand that the extra pawn on
g2 being won really is not needed.18.Re1Re819.Rxe8+Nxe820.Qxb7Qf1+20...Nc7would also be fine21.Kd2Qxa122.Qxa8Kc8?perhaps22...Qxb2reactivating the queen and protecting b8 was most accurate23.Qxa723.Qxa7White plays on for a few more moves but 2 knights down with no pieces
besides the Queen is just too much and it wasn't long until White decided to
resign. The game continued..Qxb224.a4Nc725.Qc5Kd726.a5Qb527.Qd4+Kc828.Qa1Nba629.Qxg7Qxa5+30.Kc1Qg5+31.Kb2Nd532.Qf8+Kb733.Qa3Qe5+34.Kc1Qe3+35.Kb2resigns0–1
