1. d4 Nf6 2. f3 d5 3. e4 dxe4 4. Nc3 e3 {This is known as the Langeheinecke
Defence and is a bit of a cop out move played by Black in an attempt to steer
the game towards quieter waters.} 5. Bxe3 e6 6. Bd3 {Alan develops his bishop
to its most natural attacking square although} (6. Bc4 {can also be played.})
6... Be7 7. f4 (7. Nge2 {is the more normal and popular move but Alan
demonstrates that the one played can be effective too!}) 7... O-O 8. Nf3 Nbd7
9. Qe2 c5 10. O-O-O {This is a very natural reaction to Black's last move as
the d-file looks as though it will be opened and there is a possible x-ray
attack from the rook on d1 to the queen on d8 which, as will see, proves
devastating.} b6 $6 {Black should really start considering removing the queen
off the d-file.} 11. Ne5 Bb7 {Black is still unaware of the hidden dangers to
the queen.} 12. dxc5 {'Open Sesame' for those who remember Ali Baba!} bxc5 $2 {
And suddenly Black is lost!} 13. Bb5 {Not hard to spot but devastating!} Bc8 {
And Black resigned rather than wait for} 14. Bxd7 Nxd7 15. Qb5 {Well played
Alan, a different type of BDG game.} 1-0
